Lifelong Learning for Every Age
Our education programming is designed to inspire, raise, and fuel the imaginations of young Montana musicians. We use music to ignite the spark for a continuing quest for knowledge. Special programs are geared towards our younger audiences who might not be ready to sit through two hours of a classical concert but who cannot wait to meet musicians or even play some instruments at an instrument petting zoo.
Symphony Storytime
Introduce younger children to music with Symphony Storytime, a short story-based music program to engage children, especially ages 3-5 through music. Encouraging a love of music, literacy, and discovery, Symphony Storytime exposes children to a diverse selection of stories, cultures, authors, narrative styles, readers, instruments, music, and musicians. Each engagement gives children the opportunity to participate in a dynamic, fun, and entertaining Storytime and get up close to a musician and an instrument. The Bozeman Symphony is thrilled to collaborate with community partners to bring Symphony Storytime to Montana children: Bozeman Public Library, Human Resource Development Council, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, and the World Language Initiative.
KinderKonzerts
Designed for students in kindergarten through third grade, each year's KinderKonzert program cyclically features a different instrument family so students can interact with a majority of the orchestra by the time they enter upper elementary school. These engaging and interactive programs highlight a variety of musical styles and introduce and reinforce basic musicianship skills.
Fourth Grade Concert
Each year, local fourth graders experience the power of live symphonic music at a concert tailored exclusively to them. Our Fourth Grade Concerts are designed especially for Bozeman's up-and-coming music lovers and musicians. Entertaining and educational, a thousand students annually benefit from this musical experience designed to inspire.
In partnership with Bozeman Public Schools and area educators, the concert takes place as fourth graders explore which instruments they might want to pursue in the school's fifth-grade band and orchestra program. The 2024 concert, Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf was narrated by acclaimed actor Glenn Close.

Family Concert
Family Concerts are a perfect introduction to classical music for children and a delightful journey for adults. Each year, the Bozeman Symphony offers a free concert for the community, and both performances generally sell out, serving more than 2,000 people. Family Concerts are designed to create lifelong music lovers and inspire concertgoers of all ages to pick up an instrument.
The 2024 performances of Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf on January 20 featured narration by acclaimed actor Glenn Close and Montana Shakespeare in the Parks Executive Director Kevin Asselin, as well as an instrument petting zoo where children could see, touch, hear, and play symphony orchestra instruments. |
